A Pink Warrior 5K Color Run/Walk is being sponsored by The Barnesville Hospital Foundation on October 26th at 8:30 am. The 5K run/walk will offer prizes to the first 5 male and 5 female finishers. The Color Run features runners and walkers being showered with colored corn starch throughout the race. The colors are symbolic of the fight against cancer. All proceeds from the race benefit Barnesville Hospital Foundation’s Breast Health Fund, which assists area under-insured or un-insured patients that are directly affected by Breast Cancer.
“I was inspired to name this event the PINK WARRIOR 5K due to several hospital employees that were directly affected by breast cancer. I recall trying to provide encouragement to them, by stating, You are a Warrior, and your Army is strong— you do not stand alone- we are fighting right beside you”, said Karen Mihalic, Race Coordinator. “This race is dedicated to everyone who is fighting cancer and to their friends and family who support them.”
The event will be held rain or shine. Pre-registration of $18 is accepted up until October 12th and the cost of registration from October 13th up until race day is $20. Children 10 and under are free. Special group rates are available for $15 per person. All participants will receive a t-shirt. Those who have pre-registered can pick up their packets in advance on October 25th from 8-4:30 pm at the Barnesville Hospital lobby.
This is the first Color Run to be offered in the Barnesville area. Color Runs are a national craze making the run a fun and festive event for runners, walkers and spectators. Everyone is invited to come out and join the fun.
