The Addiction Services of Eastern Ohio (ASEO) will host an Open House on Thursday, June 8th from 4:00-5:30 PM in the lower level of the Barnesville Medical Center. Everyone is welcome to come and learn more about the withdrawal management services offered.
On average, approximately eight people die each day in Ohio due to unintentional drug overdose. From 2000 to 2015, Ohio’s death rate due to unintentional drug poisonings increased 642 percent, and the increase in deaths has been driven largely by opioid-related overdoses. In Belmont County during 2016, 24 individuals lost their lives due to a drug overdose.
Due to these alarming statistics and the knowledge of how drugs were negatively impacting our communities Crossroads Counseling Services, Barnesville Hospital, Ohio Hills Health Services, Mental Health and Recovery Board, and Belmont Professional Associates have worked collaboratively for the past year to explore treatment options.
In April, ASEO opened. It provides Withdrawal Management, Behavioral Counseling and Medication Assisted Treatment.
Withdrawal Management is available to those using opiates, heroin, alcohol, Suboxone or Subutex. Medication will be offered to assist with the discomfort of withdrawal. This allows the client to remain at home, rather than being admitted to an inpatient facility. The client reports to the center daily for their medicines and are screened for substance use throughout the entire process, which typically lasts 7-14 days. Individual, group and intensive outpatient counseling are also offered.
Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) is for those addicted to opioids, heroin, alcohol, Suboxone or Subutex. MAT assists clients with the physical cravings for drugs and/or alcohol. Vivitrol is provided which is non-addictive, and blocks the receptors in the brain which allows an individual to get high. Combined with behavior modification, MAT has been proven to be the best option for recovery.
“Barnesville Hospital is proud to have taken an active role in the formation of ASEO,” said David Phillips, CEO, Barnesville Hospital. “This program is providing options locally for those individuals who are combating addiction. Everyone is welcome to attend the open house and to learn about the services which are offered.”
