Since 1928, Barnesville Hospital has served Barnesville and surrounding communities, providing ready access to comprehensive, high quality healthcare. In July 2004, Barnesville Hospital received federal designation as a Critical Access Hospital. This status is awarded to select small, rural hospitals considered necessary providers of healthcare services to residents in their area. According to Rick Doan, CEO, "Barnesville Hospital is committed to the vision that the hospital will always be a progressive leader and a vital center of community health activities in Barnesville and throughout southeastern Ohio. Our mission is to improve the community's health through the efficient provision, coordination, and integration of quality health services, health education, and research."

To celebrate its rich history of meeting the community's needs, Barnesville Hospital will be hosting a "Free Health Screening & Open House" on Thursday, April 24th from 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Included in the day's activities will be a Health Risk Assessment, blood pressure, glucose, cholesterol, body fat analysis, and screening for pulmonary disease, osteoporosis, peripheral vascular disease, carotid artery disease, and skin cancer. Peggy Douglass, Director of Education & Outreach says, "We want to demonstrate the importance of early detection of potential health problems. A day full of activities is planned where people of all ages will have a chance to participate in a variety of health screenings."

As the region has changed, Barnesville Hospital has responded with new services, updated facilities, and state-of-the-art technology. As Barnesville celebrates its Bicentennial in 2008, the hospital prepares to embark on an exciting renovation project that will provide an attractive, convenient, and efficient facility that will better serve our community. The proposed expansion and renovation project will feature an expanded, up-to-date Emergency Care facility, improved patient access and privacy, and expanded physical rehabilitation and patient care services.

All activities are free and people of all ages are encouraged to participate. An appointment is required for the health screenings. To schedule an appointment or for further information, call (740) 425-5158.
