Barnesville Hospital launches its "Ship Mates" program with a Medicare Presentation on Friday, May 16 at 2:00 PM in the Hospital Classroom. Ship Mates is a program from the Ohio Department of Insurance's Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information Program (OSHIIP). OSHIIP trains counselors to assist Medicare beneficiaries and their families or caregivers in understanding the Medicare benefit. Barnesville Hospital has certified OSHIIP counselors or "Ship Mates" on site to answer Medicare questions; explain the Medicare benefit; assist with Medicare billing issues; and present educational programs on Medicare. The hospital has established a Medicare Helpline for questions or to request assistance. To access the Helpline, call 425-5787. Leave your name and phone number, and a counselor will return your call.
The Medicare presentation on May 16 is open to the public, but geared toward Medicare beneficiaries, their families or caregivers, those about to enroll in Medicare, and those who have recently switched from traditional Medicare to managed Medicare. After the 60-90 minute presentation, counselors will be available to answer questions or meet with individuals.
OSHIIP educators are also available for educational presentations on Medicare and the Ship Mates program. Interested groups or organizations can call the Helpline to request a speaker.
