Dottie Minnich: Barnesville Hospital's nominee for Health Care Worker of Year award.

Barnesville Hospital joins 177 hospitals across the state to recognize Ohio health care workers who were nominated for this year's Albert E. Dyckes Health Care Worker of the Year Award, presented by the Ohio Hospital Association (OHA). The award, created in 1996, is named for Mr. Dyckes, a retired OHA associate, who was highly regarded throughout Ohio's health care community.

Barnesville Hospital has nominated Dottie Minnich, Patient Financial Counselor, because she exemplifies the values of the award: demonstrates leadership skills, goes beyond the call of duty, reflects the values and ideals of Ohio's health care facilities, and gives back to the community.

According to her manager, Susan Ward, R.N., M.H.A., "Dottie is very knowledgeable and serves as a resource for everyone, including staff. Dottie greets everyone with a smile and displays great concern and compassion for the patients and families she counsels. Since Dottie has been in this position we are qualifying more and more patients for free and discounted care, helping more and more people receive the care and services they need, without worrying about how to pay for it."

Dottie is a member of the Customer Relations Team; volunteers for the Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Program (NVCI) as a certified instructor; and volunteers for OSHIIP through the Ohio Department of Insurance, counseling and educating individuals and groups on the Medicare benefit and assisting them with Medicare questions and issues. Dottie is also very active in her church.

Dottie Minnich is always willing to assist any one in need. She looks at every situation and asks, "What can I do to help?" She has a very calming persona and puts patients and families at ease immediately. So many times we have heard staff say, "Dottie is so good with patients" or "Dottie is excellent in that position." Dottie Minnich is a true joy to work with. We just have to remember not to ask too much of Dottie, because she doesn't know the word "No".

Rick Doan, Barnesville Hospital CEO, says, "Dottie is knowledgeable, helpful, and caring, a perfect combination of attributes in any job. She is a true leader within our organization and is respected by all her co-workers."
