Sleep Clinic Opening at Barnesville Medical Center

Dr. Attila Lenkey and Barnesville Hospital are pleased to announce the addition of a sleep clinic to the list of patient services at the Barnesville Medical Center. "The goal of the clinic is to provide comprehensive and timely care of patients with conditions including sleep apnea, narcolepsy, insomnia, shift work disorders, restless leg syndrome and other sleeping disorders," states Dr. Attila Lenkey, M.D., board-certified Pulmonologist and Sleep Medicine physician.

Approximately 40 million Americans currently have some type of sleeping disorder and most go undiagnosed. Symptoms can include snoring, daytime fatigue, falling asleep while driving, morning headaches, depression and a general lack of energy. The sleep clinic can assist patients and their primary care physicians with the evaluation of these symptoms which can lead to a more accurate diagnosis. "The addition of the sleep clinic to Barnesville Medical Center will be a tremendous benefit to the surrounding communities," states Jeff Britton BS, RRT, RCP, Director of Cardiopulmonary Services and Sleep Lab at Barnesville Hospital. "Patients needing the services of a sleep clinic will no longer have to travel out of the area for this type of specialty care."

As well as overseeing the sleep clinic, Dr Lenkey is also the Medical Director and staff physician for the sleep diagnostic lab at Barnesville Hospital. Opening in July 2003, the sleep lab is a comprehensive, outpatient sleep disorders program designed to pinpoint, analyze and treat faulty sleep patterns in a variety of sleeping disorders. The sleep lab staff also includes Dr. Gurmeet Singh, board-certified Neurologist and sleep medicine specialist. The sleep lab provides services including Nocturnal Polysomnography (NPSG), Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT), Maintenance Wakefulness Test (MWT) and a complete patient education and follow-up program.
