Barnesville Hospital Partners With the American Cancer Society to Bring a Valuable Resource to the Community

The American Cancer Society (ACS) is pleased to announce a partnership with Barnesville Hospital for their new Cancer Resource Center (CRC). Your first question is probably, "Who can use the Cancer Resource Center?" The Cancer Resource Center is an information resource for our community. The CRC is available for cancer patients, family members, caregivers, students, or anyone who needs more information about cancer. A Cancer Resource Center provides:

• state-of-the-art information and resources
• cancer education material
• information on local support groups and community resources
• health information

"What will you find at the Cancer Resource Center?" You will be introduced to a trained volunteer who will answer your questions about American Cancer Society programs and local events. You will receive information that will be helpful to you and to your family members. You will benefit from guidance and support. There will be brochures available to you on cancer types, cancer prevention, early detection, research advances, healthy lifestyle tips, local event information and more.

"What can you do to help?" The American Cancer Society could not exist without the assistance of dedicated volunteers. On March 25, 2009, Barnesville Hospital hosted a session where John Largent of the American Cancer Society provided valuable training for local volunteers who will staff the CRC. If you would like to become a CRC volunteer, or to find the nearest CRC, please call the American Cancer Society at 1-800-227-2345 or visit the Barnesville CRC. The CRC is located in the lower level of the Barnesville Medical Center. The hours of operation will be Tuesdays from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. and Thursdays from 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

There are over 40 Cancer Resource Centers throughout the state of Ohio. An open house for the Barnesville Cancer Resource Center will be held on Monday, May 18th from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m in the lower level of the Barnesville Medical Cernter.
