Rehabilitation Therapy

The Rehabilitation Therapy Department at Barnesville Hospital consists of Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Speech Language Pathology. Our caring staff works with adult, adolescent, and pediatric patients to help them return to normal function and to provide needed education to family and patients related to current difficulties.

Physical Therapy:

Our highly trained and educated Physical Therapy staff offers a variety of therapeutic strengthening, stretching, aerobic and isometric exercises, designed to maximize recovery of function following an illness or injury. Physical Therapy also offers many modalities to help reduce pain.

Inpatient and Outpatient therapy services are initiated by a physician referral. After a thorough evaluation, a treatment program is individualized to the patient’s needs and communicated to the referring physician for approval.

Our Physical Therapists and Physical Therapist Assistants provide individualized, one on one treatment. Areas of special training/interest include concussion, balance/vestibular, and sports injuries.

Common diagnoses include:

  • Fractures

  • CVA (stroke)

  • Vestibular deficits

  • Shoulder injuries

  • Back and neck pain

  • Arthritis

Occupational Therapy:

Occupational Therapy helps people achieve independence with day to day activities by adapting, modifying, and/or teaching the needed skills for everyday living. Our very experienced staff provides individualized, one on one treatment, to maximize skill return.

Occupational Therapy services are provided on an inpatient or outpatient basis after receipt of a physician referral. An assessment is then completed and an individualized treatment plan, based on the patient’s difficulties, is approved by the physician.

Occupational Therapy services emphasize retraining of activities of daily living, upper extremity (arm) function, safety issues, dexterity, and visual and cognitive issues.

Common diagnoses include:

  • Work related injuries

Speech-Language Pathology:

Speech-language pathologists treat communication disorders, including speech, language, and swallowing/feeding difficulties. Our specialized staff treats the infant through the geriatric population on an individualized, one-on-one basis in both outpatient and inpatient settings.

A physician’s order is required for evaluation and treatment. Once the thorough evaluation is completed, an individualized treatment plan is developed and approved by the ordering physician.

Speech-language pathologists work to help people communicate with their family and friends and participate in daily activities, such as mealtimes, safely and effectively. Our therapists are certified in VitalStim and DPNS swallowing treatments and have special interests in pediatric feeding and language disorders and neurological deficits following stroke.

Common diagnoses include:

  • CVA (stroke) including slurred speech and cognitive issues

  • Dysphagia (swallowing)

  • Developmental delays in speech sounds and language

  • TBI (traumatic brain injury)/concussions
